The main difference between these two systems is that in the sugar version nature is an active component. Instead of tapping into the planets non renewable resources, we are growing plants which participate in the local ecosystem. And instead of relying in a recycling, reclayming or storing infrastructure, we are letting the existing system of living organisms use our waste as food. The more I researched on this topic, the more I convinced myself that, given the option, there is no social or environmental reason to choose a technological material over a biological one. |
